The crimson-faced commercialists had one last chance to ruffle his hair and didn't pass up the opportunity to hail Ross Hannah.
As they were up against a spluttering jalopy of mild japery, the defence can't be considered. The Dizzerman was delightful but the ever popular, ever under-utilised, effervescent Ross Hannah ran around and scored those things we remember called goals. Plural. Wow. He reminded us what he was when he first came, just before the end of the affair.
Bignot at full-back? A Big No. If we tolerate this our play-off chances will be next. Now Toto moonlighting there would be something we could sensibly serenade.
Chapell and Mackreth were eager little puppy dogs yapping away at the Aldershotian ankles, without too much pain being caused. Brown and Disley were the soul seamstresses at the heart of the matter: they had the middle sown up neatly, tightly and tidily in a cuddly blanket. Town scored because Aldershot had brought the wide Sargasso Sea as their central defence. Put simply, Pittman and Hannah could run quicker than their defenders. Yeah, I know. Simple.
It wasn't a game: it was pictures at an exhibition. None of the visitors ripped the canvas so we can paint over it again, properly, using proper grown-up brushes and proper grown-up paint.
They turned up on time. Well done.
Slow, porous, sonorous and barely bothered. A collection of individuals who had great belief in their own personal marvellousness. Like many of these southern ensembles, they were only interested in enjoying the aesthetics of attacking.
It was a dead rubber duckie day, so extrapolations and interpretations for a future that won't happen are worthless. If they have the same players next year they'll be in the same place again. Everything will change, so let's just draw a veil over them.
Oh-oh wee-ell-now. Relaxed.
Mr S Bennett (Staffs)
Was lucky to avoid at least a yellow card for persistent obstruction. He was stood in the wrong places to not see what didn't happen, such as the invisible touch at Gowling's header. This man's something you just can't trust, he's something mysterious that got in the way: 5.765.
Chapter 23: Change returns success, going and coming without error. Action brings good fortune. Sunset.
