A short one so I don't get angry
1 October 2014
"Dad, why are they being so horrible to that man?"
"It's Richard Brodie, son. They're bullying him."
"Bullying is bad, isn't it, Dad?"
"Not all the time."
Genuine conversation overheard by your London Diary last night in the heart of the Upper Findus at what can only be described as a hideous display of football. So, what every Grimsby Town fan dreaded last night happened. We played a team that hadn't won in ages, which included Richard Brodie, and he scored their winner. You couldn't write it; sadly, I've had to.
I want it on record that I'm a nice guy. I donate to charity each month via a direct debit, I pay my taxes, I help old ladies cross the road, I once gave a Lincoln fan directions to Cleethorpes train station. But I honestly think that Richard Brodie is a disgrace of a man. He doesn't play for the fans who support him: he plays for the boos. And by 'eck, that was the theme tune last night.
To give you a taste of what a childish, malicious prick he is, once he scored his 82nd-minute winner, he ran off to celebrate in front of the Main Stand in order to rile the home fans. In doing this, he ran past, and ignored, his own fans (who had travelled a fair whack).
What a guy. What. A. Guy.
Speaking of holes that belong to the arse, last night it seems old Shouty came out of the woodwork on a social media platform lambasting the performance of his old team. Even worse than this was the number of 'Town' fans who went crawling to him begging him to come back. Come on guys. Sure, you might not think that Hurst is the man for the job, but if you really think that getting 'Bobby Facking' back in charge is the answer, then God help you.
Also, let's get the official statement on why he left first. It may or may not surprise you. Block him and move on.
How was the game though? Awful. Why did we change an unbeaten team? I don't know. What was the massive ship going down the River Humber circa 20:15? I don't know. Why do you still support Grimsby Town? I don't know. It'll pass. UTM.
