The Diary

A footballer and a member of the human race

30 October 2014

A stop-gap diary here to confirm that Wimbledon midfielder Harry Pell has signed for Town on a month's loan. He's tall, he has a decent reputation and he sees himself as more than just a holding player. And he only confirmed his availability once he had cleared the move with his wife.

Middle-Aged Diary is not being snarky. One of the longest months of my life was when I got a job in Manchester but my partner and two-year old son remained on the south coast while we tried to sell our flat. Twelve years later (though naturally he'd be mortified if I reminded him now) I can still see his face crumpling when I had to say goodbye after a weekend visit. If Pell is trying to balance care for a three-and-a-half month old daughter with his career, I have every sympathy.

Lets hope he knocks in a few goals to make it worthwhile.
