Blown up out of proportion

24 February 2015

Your London Diary here today on what has been a mixed week for fans. We've beaten the league leaders in the country's second fairest town. We might be getting a new stadium but nobody really has a clue. And it looks like Ollie Palmer might be popping on his boots tonight too. What a treat.

However, it's not all fun as this morning reports came through of a Grimsby Town fan being arrested at the game on Saturday for supposedly "hitting a steward on the head with an inflatable shark". Now, this is arguably the most ridiculous sentence that a police officer would ever have to write down while nicking someone, but it's happened. I think we should wait to hear both sides of the story first, but I think it's preposterous that a man has been arrested for this when there is still no news on the thugs, sorry, stewards, who attacked a Town fan at Forest Green. Something needs to happen.

I was having a little peruse on the subject this morning when I stumbled upon this from the Mariners Trust blog. Have a read. Positive note is that the Football Supporters' Federation is providing assistance to our man with the shark; so football ain't all bad. Kind of.

Whenever I watch the telly and someone mentions Grimsby Town FC I get all tingly, like that time when I kissed Joanne Burgess in Old Clee Church Hall at someone's 12th birthday (we were both 12 too). Even when those two off Soccer AM mention our beloved team I still get all excited, so I lost my mind when I saw these photos emerge from the wrestling on Sunday night.

At most WWE games there is the occasional Grimsby Town shirt or Grimsby Town sign and this weekend's signs were amazing. I just love the 'indie-ness' of them in such a theatrical arena. Turns out the Town fan in question is indeed Mr Andrew Newman, a wrestling fan and Mariner who is based out in that there USA. Take a bow son, and keep 'em coming.

Oh bloody hell – we're playing football tonight! LINSCUMBUMTITTY! We're fully fit tonight and can play anyone we want. Personally, I'd like to see Hamish Watson get a bit more game time. If he scores a couple of beauts tonight you can thank me tomorrow and buy me a pint on Saturday. Lager top please. UTM!
