This Town knows

Miss Guest Diary writes: Wemberleeey, Wemberleeey, we're the famous Grimsby Town and we're off to Wemberleeey.

After a nervous and mediocre start to yesterday's game it all turned out brilliantly, didn't it? Town had a shot after about 30 minutes and after that they didn't look back, with the strike partnership of Palmer and John-Lewis coming together beautifully just when we needed it to. Now, as my favourite radio presenter Danny Baker would say, we're on a gravy train with biscuit wheels.

And the whole squad are on it with us, judging by the dressing room footage posted by the club. It was great to see all the players, not just the current first teamers, celebrating together. Of course, it could have been just because they knew the camera was there, but somehow I don't think so. With team spirit like that, I'd say Town have every chance of winning at Wembley, underdog or not.

Now begins the planning and fretting about the Wembley trip: car or train, overnight stay or day trip, category 1 or 2 tickets? There has already been a lot of chatter on social media about the high booking fees and postage costs. I certainly won't be making the mistake I did with Town's last outing to Wembley for the FA Trophy, when I agreed to get the tickets for a dozen or so friends. The worry when the tickets didn't arrive until the day before the game, the frantic arrangements for concourse rendezvous with three different sets of people nearly spoiled the whole thing. Never again. This time it will just be me, my partner and his lucky shirt.

So one of the usual pleasures of this time of year – plotting our away trips for next season – must remain on hold for another two weeks. Will it be Notts County, Mansfield and Leyton Orient or Barrow, Bromley and Braintree? Just saying those last three teams makes me feel a little queasy. Come on Town, you can still do this!
