Throw the book at him
3 June 2015
Usually at this stage of the football break, your CA scribes are often scraping various barrels looking for tiny crumbs of stories to keep you entertained while there's no football on, but this year is different. If anything, it's busier than when we're actually playing.
Firstly, away from Town, your London Diary gave out a little 'yelp' upon hearing the news that Sepp Blatter is standing down as FIFA president. I fully expect him to be in prison soon, fingers crossed. Football is great as, like many sports, it's something that connects people across the world and combats barriers. However, the game of football that Blatter plays is far removed from the game of football that the majority plays. He's the 1%. He's the David Cameron of football: he hasn't got a sodding clue. Goodbye. David Ginola has played at Coventry on a freezing Tuesday in January. Let's have him.
Operation Promotion keeps going and going with the total at 12 noon today just hitting the £33k mark. Truly incredible work. Well done to every single person who has helped with this. I've been told that more rewards will be added over the next few days, so keep your eyes peeled.
I'm probably the most optimistic of all the CA diaries, and I keep getting called in to the office to be reprimanded about this, but I really am loving what is happening at the moment. This is a football club that is followed by some truly incredible fans (and the occasional end of a bell) and I'm proud to be a part of it. It's everything that Sepp Blatter and his little band of corrupt pals isn't. Keep going – we've got something special here. Well done to the Mariners Trust.
One thing that I have noticed over the last 12 months is belief. Now, obviously we the fans all have massive belief in the team etc, but it's the players' beliefs that have made me take notice. Some of you may have spotted on social media that some of the Town lads have made references to their belief in God.
Now, having been a choirboy in a church in Grimsby as a kid, I know that religion wasn't the coolest thing to be associated with. But what I do like is the fact that the Town players are proud of showing the faith, much in the same way that I'm proud to say that I'm a Grimsby Town fan in a sea of Arsenal and Man Utd fans. You stick to what you believe and you keep on doing what you're doing. As I said, we're all in this together. Now, let's go and raise a few million. UTM.
