Cod Almighty | Diary
Attack the near post

Miss Guest Diary writes: Sometimes being a Cod Almighty diarist is a thankless task, not least on a Monday in mid-June when the biggest Town news is that Paul Hurst has "quite a few" transfer targets in mind, but refuses to name any of them. My disenchantment with the role is compounded by an inability to match the standard set every Friday by Retro Diary, who has the uncanny knack of taking the smallest piece of news and turning it into an essay about the foibles of modern football. Darn him.
Operation Promotion continues apace, with the totaliser heading towards £50,000 in just over two weeks. I see that one of the rewards, which can be had for a £5 pledge, is a ticket to a party at McMenemy's at 8pm on Saturday 25 July. This will double as a celebration and a last chance to raise funds through an auction and raffle. Would anybody like to hazard a guess what the final total raised will be?
So what else is going on? Well, not content with all the crowdfunding initiatives, the club has launched a fundraising scheme for the youth team whereby season ticket holders can pay £20 to have a personalised message on their seat at Blundell Park. It's tempting but, having pondered it all weekend, I have failed to come up with any message which is either original or amusing enough not to be regretted three games into the season.
Finally, a further pre-season friendly has been announced, against Peterborough at Blundell Park on Tuesday 28 July. Hopefully by then we'll know more about those transfer targets on the manager's mind.
