Conference Premier

Grimsby Town 0

Braintree Town 1

Sponsors' man of the match: Jon Nolan

The suited swingers just wanted to thank Jon Nolan for trying. No harm in that.

Cod Almighty man of the match: Jon Nolan

Only Gowling and Nolan showed desire to succeed, to match the Brainiacs’ intensity. But Jon Nolan didn’t facilitate failure with a flop in the corner, and he did drive all night. Is that all right?

Us

Monkhouse and Robertson are too old. Disley has run out of puff. Arnold did not want his new haircut ruffled.

And then there is the enduring mystery of the re-appearing Hoban.

Was this really a mystery? Slow and old players slow the pace of the passing and movement. You end up with old men standing around watching inferior players fail. It all starts with who is selected to play and what they are told to do.

This Nonsense Must End.

Them

Braintree are upper mid-table uber-overachievers. One has to admire their persistence and organisation. They just ran around where necessary and stood in the right places when required. They did what they were told and did it very well.

They thoroughly deserved everything.

They are a duller but more effective Macclesfield. I suppose that’s what good management is all about: making more out of less. Well managed, well drilled, well done.

Grimsby 'til I die... or cry?

Everybody seems to know the score, haven’t we seen it all before?

Official warning

Mr R Jones

Had a curious inability to count when walking towards any blue-striped wall and an over-willingness to flash yellow at monochromers. Town’s appalling patheticness had nothing to do with him. 6.666 is only appropriate

Readers' digest

No work and no play makes Town a dull side.
