Gowling's hair bobbed and Nolan throbbed, but who else would star in this restoration comedy? Wigless in Woking and peerless near Purley, Pádraig Amond beat 'em on the bottom with a Woman's Weekly.
"I thought we were outstanding in the first half. We moved the ball well, and they couldn't really get near us.
"Garry (Hill) changed his players around to try and nullify that – and he was happy to go in at half-time only 1-0 down. My only criticism is that we didn't score more goals in the first half, because we expected the response from them."
"We started against a Grimsby side who started very quickly and moved the ball around and showed a lot of quality in a big way.
"We found ourselves 1-0 down in the first 20 minutes. They had players all over the park and we couldn't really live with them. They were playing some superb football."
Bogle and Amond. Together. Passing and movement. Goals. Fun.
The enervating East effect was overpowered by Town's tasty triangle of total football: Nolan, Amond and Bogle. Beautiful. Let's draw a small veil over the second-half shrivel, when Woking decided to hassle and harry, and use their pacy wingery. Let us rejoice that McKeown didn't fall down the wormhole.
Breath out, breath in. Relax. Smile. You have two weeks off from fretting and frothing.
Each year they get a little weaker. They are still a showcase for individual talents, with a focus on flying wingery and trickery, but not really bothering about defending. Andrade and Caprice were their Thunderbolt and Lightning, being occasionally frightening, but beyond that they were simply a nice bunch of foes.
Forever destined to bob around mid-table. Harmless fun.
Don't take it too seriously. Not many do.
Mr O Yates (Staffs)
Absolutely faultless. Allowed the game to flow and so he positively glowed. He even ended it quickly so we could let the train take the strain. An extra point for stopping the game for Norman's fey feint: 9.334.
The sign of the times is the opposite of the hypotenuse. Bogle clenched and Amond drenched.
