No one was awful, and no one was great, but Boyce and Gunning did their jobs more than adequately. And Gunning did slightly more than just his job. He attempted a floated pass and a lobbed shot that suggest he might have Futcher-ian possibilities in a settled side. And his hands-to-his-face, stomping bewilderment at being penalised for a perfect tackle reminds us that were he a tennis player, Gunning would surely be John McEnroe.

A bunch of whole-hearted scrappers, in the best sense of the world. This draw extends their unbeaten run to ten games. That perhaps says more about the fourth flight than it does about Accrington: they are adept scavengers off others' failings.

For most of the game, Peter Gooch didn't have much to ref, although he was let down in a couple of inconsequential decisions by the left-sided linesman.
