Seeing red
29 August 2017
Devon Diary writes: If you'd asked me before the season kicked off whether I thought we'd be scraping the bottom of the division but at the same time smashing our rivals out of sight in terms of red cards, I'd have shrugged and accepted the poor start, but never in a million years the sendings-off.
Talking of red cards (and that's all we've got to talk about, right?), young Max Wright, who marked his Scarborough debut with a cracking goal and also skinned his defender to set up another, picked up a red after kicking the ball away and hitting a (Mariners) fan in the face.

The fallout from the Stevenage game continues to, er, fall out and this morning we hear from the Mariners Trust that Stevenage will be dealing with the club now, rather than the folks who actually made the complaints. It beggars belief and one would hope there's good reason for this; otherwise it looks like yet another club failing to understand the importance of fans in the game.
One positive from this mess is the Trust's #watchingfootballisnotacrime initiative. If you haven't seen it already, take a look here and take a minute to share their Facebook and Twitter posts. Great work, Trustses!
Tonight sees the visit of local rivals Doncaster, and Mariners manager Iain Biglin has an almost full squad to choose from. Biglin is keeping his cards close to his chest as expected, other than saying it'll be 4-4-2, but we reckon we'll be seeing all of the following making an appearance: keeper Scott Groves; defenders Nick Cook, Ian Chamberlain, Darren Brett, Mike Pitts, Darryl Sawyer and Scott Grice; midfielders Adam Hayworth (c), Craig Nuttall, Ben Frary, Josh Dellow, Eddy Fanthorpe and Ricky Young; strikers Reece Precious, James Hutson and Gavin Harris.
Donny's player/managers Louis Bailey and Matt Harriman will not be taking the competition lightly so get yourself down to Jubilee Park, St Christopher's Road, Humberston and get behind the lads.
There will be a raffle on the night and a bar too. All profits will be going to Inspire TCI, Grimsby Town Disabled Supporters Club and Doncaster's Bluebell Wood Childrens Hospice, and you'll be sending a message to Shaun Harvey and the EFL. Stop fucking with the game, Shaun.
Lastly, I think we were all shocked to hear yesterday that young Town fan and daredevil terrace-barrel pioneer Lewis Sewell passed away at the age of 18 after a short illness. Our thoughts and the thoughts of all Town fans are with Lewis' family and friends. RIP and UTM.
