We were throwing furniture off the roof

Trentside Diary writes: It was the official kit launch over the weekend. I’m liking it as much as I ever do. As long as it’s black and white stripes, preferably all the same width, then I’m happy. I never much liked the old Ciba shirt with the narrow stripes but I’m sure some of you did. Three fish on the back is a nice touch. I’ve bought many shirts over the years for my boys but have never sported one myself. Maybe I’ll have to treat myself this season.
I’ll always have a scarf and I’ve had the same one for years now. It features in photos from the play-off final in the Millennium Stadium so that gives you an idea of how long. I’m not superstitious, or claim not to be, but when it comes to my Town scarf, if the team is on a good run, the scarf can’t be washed just in case it changes our fortunes.
Not sure where that comes from really. Fishermen’s wives wouldn’t do the washing on the day the boat sailed as it was meant to be extremely unlucky, so maybe it’s just the Grimsby DNA. On reflection the club hasn’t had many good runs in the time I’ve owned the scarf, or more accurately Fenty has been the major shareholder, so maybe I should invest in a new one if we ever get a new owner.
Mr Jolley will be doing a question and answer session at the beginning of August, probably the 1st but to be confirmed. This has been organised by the Mariners Trust and promises to be a fascinating evening. The perfect taster for the new season; we have a thoughtful, articulate manager and it will be chance to hear his thoughts for the coming campaign.
I for one am hoping the session will be broadcast for exiles and anyone else who can’t make it. We will know most if not all of our squad by then and many of us will have planned our away days. I don’t for a minute think that the budget will have been there for the squad we would want, but at this time of year, before a ball is kicked, we live in hope. UTM!
