Cod Almighty | Diary
Cake or death
25 November 2019
An era has ended and many Town fans are urging us to look to the future. Fair enough, I like the sentiment but I haven't yet got over the shit-shower that was last week. Don't worry, the whole diary won't be old news but I'd still like a few questions answered by the majority shareholder.
MJ was always perfectly polite so what tipped him over the edge on the day of the notorious recording? I don't for a minute think it was the poor match; you'd be angry, but not lose it like that. Which weasel released the tape? There were a limited number of people in the room to record it but others could have got hold of a copy. I wouldn't put it beyond the club to have released it to move the discussion away from the criticism about Farage, but who knows? Trouble is the lack of honesty running through our club means fans are kept in the dark and we have to accept what is shovelled to us. Maybe MJ will look back with relief as well as a sadness at what could have been.
Let's get back to the Mariners on the pitch. We really don’t deserve our amazing fans. After our recent form and the madness, 597 made the trek to Northampton. We started decently. If only we could have taken our chances there might have been a different outcome but we're a team without confidence and it shows. We're hesitant, slow to pass and need to get something soon to set us on the right path.
As ever Town fans were divided. The sensible view that Northampton were in decent form and we were competitive for much of the first half; we played football and had a few chances. Then the angry crowd, those that ridicule and shout abuse at managers and players and make you wonder why anyone would want to play for us. It goes on even when we're on a good run, because they still have a player they love to hate or would set the team up better themselves. I don't know what the answer is but it does make you wonder why you bother to go yourself because it's bad enough losing without this atmosphere. Perhaps we just try to remember that this is the only way some fans can vent their frustration with their life but it can hardly help our performance.
And after all that joy, it still looks like Nunty will be appointing our next manager. Lots of names are being bandied about but they'll probably be given no cash so what would bring them to Town other than needing a job? That's going to end well. UTM!
