Cod Almighty | Diary

Medium-sized pickings

9 January 2020

There is news, but it won't be news to you unless Cod Almighty is your only source of Town news.

If you were interested in the first place, you surely know by now that the reserves beat their Rotherham counterparts 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon. Once upon a time the results of reserve games would be carried in the national newspapers. I once managed to annoy an Arsenal-supporting colleague, the morning after the Gunners had lost to Tottenham, when I exclaimed my own frustration on reading Town had lost a Central League game against Hull. Apparently, the two derbies don't compare.

Dani Brighton has received international clearance to join Grimsby Town Women, and her future teammates maintained their 100 per cent record in all competitive matches with a 5-1 win over Louth Old Boys. These stories are well covered by the official site, although admittedly it doesn't explain why Brighton - who has been playing, coaching and studying in the United States but before that played for a Lincoln City Development team - should need international clearance.

You should most certainly read Ian Holloway's interview on the Guardian website. The one you have surely been alerted to already.

Elsewhere, Holloway is also dropping broad hints about our next signing. Everyone except Cod Almighty and the offical site seem to know it is the Plymouth striker Billy Clarke. He is "not just another player", apparently, but Cod Almighty's non-commercial guidelines prevent me making the obvious joke about a well-known advertising campaign for an even-better-known retailer of clothes and household goods with a sideline in upmarket groceries. Though as the imminent new signing is hungry apparently, it might be his next port of call.

I'm a bit peckish myself. Be off with you.
