All around the world, you've gotta spread the word
28 January 2020
Trentside Diary writes: There were a few moaners after the result on Saturday but for once the majority of Town fans were going with the flow and not expecting instant miracles. That's not like us is it?
There are still a few numpties. On Twitter, a really unpleasant character had a go at a fan in America who has adopted Town as his team. A simple comment that his little boy was upset about Saturday's result was enough to provoke a response of "Stick to your LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls and leave GTFC to us proper fans". How very sad.
Many Town fans enjoy exchanges with people from around the world. If I get opportunity when on holiday, I'll go to matches abroad. I have always been welcomed and ended up chatting to locals. There has never been any of this "stick to your own club" nastiness. We should celebrate people wanting to follow Town. Look at the enthusiasm shared with the Aalst contingent.
If you are watching on iFollow, a small amount of money goes to the club so why have a go? This exchange encapsulated the attitude that many believe prevails in Grimsby. We know it doesn't generally but there are still too many who have the kind of attitude that deters interest, growth and investment in the area. There are a fair few fans who have adopted Town because of a partner, relative or friend, not because they are born in the area. Where's the commitment and passion that our new manager is trying to instil? And he’s not a local either!
On to more positive things. Don't you just love a night match? Bit of a squeeze getting there after work for many but the atmosphere is often worth it. There isn't much love between Town fans and Stevenage. We've lost the last three encounters and don't have a great record against them but their form this season is so poor that we should be looking to bounce back from Saturday.
Let's be honest, after Bra-gate in 2017, we really don't like them and it's about time we gave them a bit of a trouncing. Waterfall will be back from suspension and Matt Green may be on the bench. This is all good news for the manager who will be making longer term decisions on his squad. He's said he wants to develop our style of play. Let's see what he can get out of them. UTM. Fenty Out.
