The one with hardly any letters

10 September 2003

In this week's Postbag: Des difficulty; things you only know if you're a chemist; y r u failing English?; Cas-tigated; and a report on the Taylor report

Disco

It took me ages to find out who Disco Des scored his first league goal against. I thought the questions were not quite that simple, and needed a bit of research.

Am I missing something (a football almanac, or a brain perhaps)?

from Stu Morton

Letters Ed responds: No. We wanted to make it that little bit more difficult for a change. The answers are out there, you just need to look in the right place

Lived away

We've lived away from the area for six years, but do manage the odd match, home and away, if only to make sure that we made the right decision in dumping the season tickets and having kids instead.

One of those chants that the more clever opposing supporters come up with from time to time is the 'Grimsby...stinks of fish' one. Why?

Firstly, they haven't landed fish there in any great quantities since the 80's and secondly how can you tell with all the chemicals in the atmosphere?

But then, I don't suppose the phrase 'Grimsby...stinks of ethlypolyacrylophenylethyliticbromide' has quite the same ring to it.

Coz

from Billy nomates

Letters Ed responds: Billy is available for weddings, birthdays, childrens parties etc. If you'd like to book him, drop him an e-mail at billybobs@msn.com

Cas

Your Peterborough preview notes that Marcel Cas would be suspended. So who was that playing on the right wing for the Town on Saturday?

from from

Letters Ed responds: Err. When we said suspended, we meant suspended in a clear box above the Thames for 44 days and nights. Either that or Si screwed up...

Taylor

In the excellent supplement with the 200th When Saturday Comes, there is a fair few references to the Taylor Report.

One point that caught my attention is that only four of the 76 recommendations in the report concerned standing. What were the other 72 recommendations concerning then? Do any of you guys or your readers know?

Another thing I've wondered for a few years now - can I get hold of a copy of the Taylor report to read myself?

from Tony Rogers

I'm struggling to move for all the tumbleweed. Liven things up a bit by sending us some feedback. We really do print anything.
