Marching to a different tune

1 October 2020

Trentside Diary writes: Town's social media bod thinks they are down with the kids and gave us 20+ seconds of a shooting game (Call of Duty, maybe?) with "target acquired". To be honest if it wasn't a striker who scores every game I wasn't sure if I was really that interested. But he comes with a year's League experience at Forest Green so let's hope he can do some good for us. Welcome James Morton. My concern is whether we are ever going to watch him play? Who knows? I think for once I speak for all of us when I say "I certainly hope so".

I'm a bit underwhelmed at the moment. Town, or at least chair Philip Day, are wanting the season suspended because of the difficulties with Covid but is he a lone voice? I haven't heard other calls for suspension but maybe I've missed them. Alternatively, we're out of step.

I'm ot sure if a call for suspension really stacks up with signing more players, but then that's the downside of a transfer window. You have to make a move before 16 October when the domestic transfer window closes. Do we know if Ian Holloway is after anyone else? It's a tough balancing act for a club like Town, but there must be an argument for not committing further funds, using the money for Covid tests to get some game time and our current players match fit. That said, I do get that whatever the club do, they are trying to balance conflicting decisions.

Fans seem really split on what Town are doing. Some are happy with the statements made and the actions of the club. Others are concerned that we started the season behind everyone else in terms of preparedness and now we're slipping further back. The reality is probably somewhere in the middle. Let's hope the club will release more information on the decisions they have made to give more clarity on why we're out of step. Then we can get back to worrying about our performances. UTM!
