Postbag: Tea Tea Tea Tea Tea Spam and Tea

3 June 2005

No more letters about iced tea, I pleaded. And did they listen. Did they buggery. So, here we are for a second successive week with a postbag about the pros and cons of iced tea. Enjoy.Oh, and please send your letters that really aren't about iced tea to postbag@codalmighty.com and maybe we can talk about football or something. I dunno.

Tea Tea Races

I was walking through San Diego zoo a couple of years ago and saw a drinks machine. I thought it would be a good idea to buy some ice tea. How wrong I was. One saving grace was that it was near the orangutan enclosure and I saw two hummingbirds knock themselves out on the glass of the enclosure. American swine with their filthy drinking habits.

Thirsty work reading about iced tea in the letter column. Interesting to note someone else has picked up on the fact that American beer has no taste. Where does it go during the brewing process? Did it ever exist?

Budweiser and Coors Light (why not Lite?) are not even 'urine' yellow in colour (color?) they are some kind of pale shandy gold. Is colour linked to taste? Why does it cost more to taste less? Miller Genuine Draft (Draught?) in bottles is a little better for both parameters, but as far as I know it isn't available as a draught pint. I'm confused.

I understand the chaps at CA not only enjoy their football, but they are also music mad as well. Got a new game for you. It's called who can be as bad as Adam Ant at Live Aid, 20 years on (it was for charity, and he had to go and mention to the crowd that the next song, his only song, was the next single! I was only 15, but I cringed. Pity it isn't on the DVD). Remember the original Live Aid had rubbish sound until U2 and Queen hit the stage? It was all tinny and synthy, and that the bands of the day (Spandau Ballet, Ultravox, Style Council, Sade etc.) just went through the motions as they probably had not had as large a crowd to play to before or after, but they just didn't seem to enjoy themsleves much.

Can Live 8 be any better? Initial line-up includes Madonna, Paul Macca, Coldplay, Dido and Keane with other bands at other locations. Possibly even a reunion of the Spice irls… merchandise available at the back of the arena!

What was it that your tagline states? Never go back…

Tea Off

Being that I'm a real life Texan, I thought I'd clarify a sweeping generalisation that appears on your letters page regarding how we prefer our ice tea. Having been born and raised in the great state, I have imbibed this glorious nectar for as long as I can remember. At no time have I ever consumed this tantalising liquid as described by Mr. Booth - 3 parts sugar to 1 part tea; however, I do recommend drinking it with a squeeze of lemon and a sprig of lightly crushed fresh mint. Most folk back home enjoy iced tea in this way and with temperatures reaching 100 degrees plus, a cuppa just won't refresh the same way.

Letters Ed responds: I have one question: Is it iced tea or ice tea?
