Putting canaries to bed
I went to that Norwich cup game mentioned in the last two postbags. I stood in the Osmond as well with my sister whom I had forced at meccano gun point to bring me from Caistor to the game. I'm pretty sure we took the lead and then they equalised before we lost the replay. About three weeks later she asked me who we had drawn in the next round; not having noticed, apparently the Norwich goal at all. This almost certainly means that Town scored at the Osmond end and the Canaries scored at the Pontoon end. I'm afraid I can't be arsed to check the actual facts.
Perhaps you should ban any further correspondence on this, frankly boring topic.

Ye olde GTFC webbe site
I was musing on the history of internet communications relating to the mighty Mariners and was wondering how old you were and who your forbears were? Has anyone written an article on the history of internet communications relating to the Mariners. You know the kind of thing where did it all start and where did it all go (wrong)?
Personally I can remember being on an internet mailing list in the early to mid 90's which had a couple of hundred members exchanging emails with like minded town fans. I can't remember for the life of me who organised it but it was great, nearly every day I'd get some mail from a fan somewhere in the world relating to the latest GTFC happenings. Now I have to go and look for the stuff myself and its not the same. I often (well once this afternoon) wondered what happened to the people on that list. Does anyone know. Does anyone still have a copy of the mailing list? Does anyone care?

I remember the list well - it was started by Anthony Wood who also, I believe, designed the first GTFC fan-site (remnants of which can still be found with the excellent Internet Archive). As for a brief history of CA - well, it was thrown together by a number of people who were on that original mailing list, but mainly by Si Wilson (who also had some input on the original official site, and the electronic fishcake). Positive pies
I'm pleased that Positive John is making a real effort to attract fans to home games and to get behind the team but I can't help wondering if season ticket holders are getting stiffed during the campaign. Apart from the obvious lack of legroom they now have due to their being more people in the stands, the Johnny come-lately fans are getting in at reduced rates and basically being rewarded for not being as much of a loyal fan as the season ticket holders. Are season tickets holders compensated in any way? Free pies or tickets to away games? Cashback, perhaps? Guaranteed savings, above and beyond the early purchase discounts, for next season?

Letters Ed responds: I think the club have started to do offers for season ticket holders (i.e. bring a sponging mate for free, get a fiver off next season's ticket etc). Free pies would be appreciated though.
Gate receipt
I now have a gate at Blundell Park. It was a birthday present. Please take lots of pictures of it because I don't have the technology at my disposal to do so.
It may even be a lucky gate - we've not lost since it was renamed.

What a brilliant article. But B*st*n were only deducted 4 points, not 6, and started their life in the football league on -4.
If Accrington aren't treated too harshly with their own possible points deduction, maybe justice will be done this year.

Strutting with balls
Love the site... found when looking for reviews of fish and chips! I left Grimsby a long, long time ago, but still visit family though. I live in Victoria, BC Canada now.
We have an "English Sweetshop" here, run by someone from Grimsby - so my Mum says. Good for a supply of aniseed balls. I can never figure out if it's the English or Grimsbyish people don't understand. I never knew "struts" (the fish) were local to GY until I read your site!

Rob Murray is great
I played against Rob Murray as a YT at Sheff Utd. He can't be as bad as you make him out to be because our gaffer at the time, Frank Bottorsley, refered him to Warnock who asked for him to join Sheff Utd YT's. He was a good lad.
I live in Grimsby but never went to school in the area. Rob Murray deserves a chance in the sticks like all young gk's should - then I'd be happy for your website to judge him. He also - if you looked it up - had a call up for England and Scotland schoolboys.

Your club map has a very impressive outline but only 23 teams. MK DONS absent. Please insert Milton Keynes somewhere north of Wycombe as I need a complete map for my Ph.D thesis on "The Geographical Factors influencing Changes in Form of Football Clubs in Coca Cola League 2 in Season 2006-07"
