The Olympics have been a bit rubbish, haven't they?
28 July 2021
The winner of the trust's Blundell Park boardroom naming competition has been announced. Alan Buckley topped the poll of over 650 respondents and has the honour of getting his name over the door of the site of countless bungles, sackings and alleged unrequested tie-straightenings.
An admirer of Sir Alan's old school straight talking, Daubney Diary looks forward to hearing his reaction to news of an honour akin in scale to naming the pigeon deterrent spikes on Trafalgar Square after Nelson. Having said that, the objectives of the trust and club are also worthy of admiration. In common with yesterday's statement on the recent fixture changes, the intention to improve engagement and communication is there; the execution just needs to be honed.
After years of being ignored or receiving the mushroom treatment, we'll take that for now. Especially when the other statement from the club yesterday was to announce a free season ticket for Daphne Baker. Lovely stuff and an example of reasonably instant karma. You may recall Daphne and her quote of "I don't support any other team" when earning £1,000 for the GTFC Supporters Coach as part of her football fan of the month award in May.
Paul Hurst and James McKeown have been talking to the TeleAd about what the 0-1 hammering of division three giants Rotherham could mean for the coming season. It might be an age or Covid thing but Daubney isn't stressed about where we end up next season; being in that fanzone on a sunny afternoon getting a round of pies and beers in will do nicely. Who wants to get all stressed out and shouty about winning the right to play Crawley or Rochdale?
Boom! After stalling literally and figuratively for four paragraphs, there is some minty fresh news to report. Defender Sebastian Revan has followed in the illustrious footsteps of Easah Suliman in joining Town on loan from Aston Villa. And here's some more good news, Tuesday's Alfreton friendly is being streamed for anyone who needs their fix and can't get to the game. Welcome Sebastian and UTM.
