The Diary

Does confession cleanse your soul? Let's find out.

5 August 2021

In the name of Buckley, and Kerr, and of the Football Gods. Amen. "Bless me, Alan, for I have sinned. It is two weeks since my last diary." I am a wife and a mother and I should try to set an example to my family.

I haven't watched any of the pre-season friendlies so far and that is remiss of me, given how little I know of the new signings and the coming season. To compound my sin, I have bought tickets for Boston on Saturday but I am going with a couple of Boston fans so will be sitting with them. I will judge the mood and cheer or clap very loudly if we score. I hope I can be forgiven for this.

While I am here Alan, could I just bring up a couple of other indiscretions? Last year after March we couldn't attend our usual place of worship so we made the difficult decision to pay our respects wherever we happened to be staying. Whitby and St. Pauli have much to offer. We promise our souls are still with Town.

In my defence I have purchased my season ticket and will go to as many games as I can but I am not yet confident about getting through the crush for the Upper Youngs and so it's very much on a let's wait and see how it feels. I'm sure it will be fine, just confirmation nerves. I also sit next to several elderly people. If they return, I will be wearing a mask even though we will be outdoors. Anything that means I'm less likely to spread anything to them.

I am sorry for all these sins and the sins of my past life.

NB. My penance was to offer a prayer for the success of Alan Buckley and George Kerr to be upon us this season. I hope it works.

UTM!
