Streaker update, a Grimmo dictionary suggestion and fixturegate. Only in a Cod Almighty postbag
Grimmo dictionary
Nanna used to say a "dungaree eye" meaning a black eye.
from Linda Baker
Letters Ed responds: Anyone else heard this? My own father and his family call brown sauce black sauce? I am not sure if this is another Grimsbyism or off the chart colour-blindness.
Fixture change madness
I don't mind that Southend wanted to play their home game on a Friday night although it ruins the plans of a lot of Town fans who wanted to attend the game.
What I fail to understand is why we agreed to move the home game to a Friday as well. We have never traditionally played on that night.
Weekend football at Blundell Park is 3pm on a Saturday... I don't know what Hurst was thinking of, as apparently it was his decision to agree to this change.
from David Elsey
Letters Ed responds: Since Richard Hallam wrote about this, the club has explained they changed the date of the Southend home game to allow more recovery time for a likely mid-week match the following week. Should that override the custom of 3pm on Saturday? We'd be interested to hear people's thoughts.
He's one of our own
There is so much we could tell you about the streaker as he was one of our (Caistor's) own. Well, I know he was one of the best footballers we had and he also played for Scunthorpe juniors on occasion. He sadly died last year.
The Spurs connection is a new one on me. However, he was wearing my bobble hat and nothing else on that day and he also upstaged that local runner who had come all the way from Louth raising cash for JW.
Richard Dawson should be able to provide a bit more information as I reckon he gave him a lift there, and I seem to remember we were both in the White Hart, in Caistor, having an early Saturday night livener when he came back from GY.
Happy Days
from Alan Chapman
Letters Ed responds: Very sorry to hear that, Alan. Our condolences. Thank you for sharing some of your memories with us.
Do you feel there's a topic relating to all things GTFC we haven't discussed in the post bag? If so, please send it in - we're all ears.
