Me again
30 September 2021
Domestic Diary writes: We're still mopping up from Tuesday night.
That evening, coping rather better with Storm Git than the first team, the under-18s beat Halifax Town 3-0 to progress to the next round of the FA Youth Cup. Middle-Aged Diary would tell you how may rounds there are before the final, but the FA page devoted to the competition is a bit of a mess. I would tell someone to sort it, but I'm not sure who it should be. It would never have happened in Arthur Drewry's day.
What the erstwhile Town director, FA board member and FIFA President would have made of one of Town's players getting sent off for retaliation we can only guess. Paul Hurst has been characteristically measured in his response: if he saw what he thinks he saw on Tuesday, then Michee Efete can expect to be punished, but he is going to review the incident first. Does anyone else get the impression that Grimsby Town is nowadays being run by grown-ups?
That's your lot for today I'm afraid. We do sincerely hope to resume our trial of more youthful diarists next week.
Bye.
