What's that got to do with the price of fish?
20 October 2021
Daubney Diary writes: GTFC are top of the league and serving up 5-0 cup tonkings as Michelin-listed Fortress Blundell Park approaches another sell-out. If you fashioned a pair of football focus blinkers out of a discarded covid mask, you might think you've been transported to a utopia.
In fact, as highlighted by Middle-Aged Diary yesterday, the good vibes do go beyond the football with a Guardian article that was perfect in almost every way apart from the tautology "Gourmet Haddock" in the headline. Things coudn't be going any better... wait, what's this? Record prices at Grimsby Fish Market as cost of fish and chips set to rise 'at least 10 per cent'. Jinxed it, didn't we.
Chippy tea price inflation aside, Pettit and Stockwood must be pleased as they scoff another foie gras-infused scotch egg with a side order of three points. Pleased and a little bit worried. If they can do this in a few months, fan expectations will soon go the way of the fish prices, with hearts set on unattainables like the Champions League or something mildly interesting in the weekly GTFC email newsletter. Only kidding, email newsletter team, it might be interesting but it's probably been read elsewhere already.
As honeymoons go, this beats the hell out of three days in the static in Skeg, both in terms of duration and excitement. So, having already trod on the toes of Middle-Aged Diary, I'll risk a dose of my own medicine from the email newsetter team by doing so again: enjoy the honeymoon while keeping in mind that righting GTFC is a long term project.
With nothing much GTFC happening, we'll let you get back to your day, closing with a couple of space-filling clips from last night's football which are worth watching even if you've seen them aready.
First up are the next visitors to the Fortress, Yeovil. Their cup replay at Weymouth went to penalties last night and featured this apt farce in a 2-1 triumph. (Audio required for maximum mirth)
This penalty is brilliant. #ytfc pic.twitter.com/cFOAsvfjJq

That penalty may indeed be brilliant but it's not a patch on this goal from Pymouth's win over Bolton:

Who needs the Champions League when you have proper football like this?
