A DAB hand at radio
Dear Cod Almighty.
The club's superb official web site promises the "new Mariners Player offers you near DAB quality live audio of every Town game this season".
As I am someone who believes wireless radios are merely receptors for dark magic and you guys are clearly far more informed, can you explain how good is DAB quality and how the web site can quantify its claim that their sound transmitted over the internet can be 'near DAB quality'?
Thank you in advance.

Letters Ed responds: This is more old postbag Ed territory. He says: "I guess they can transmit it over the web at near lossless data as it probably doesn't go wireless at any point ... but I expect there is some compression when it is streamed over the internet, which means they get 'near DAB quality', but in fact no one could tell the difference anyway." Couldn't we have done with a considerable loss of quality when the fourth Crewe goal went in?
Shut down shut down the Town
Two league games into the season and Cod Almighty - or the diary writer at least - is jumping on the despair wagon? Isn't this the same web site that very publicly denounced John Fenty's dismissal of Alan Buckley last season? If your tongue is in your cheek then you should make a little more obvious.
Saturday was awful no doubt about it but it also seemed a case of every body associated with the club having an off game from the players to the manager. Every side has an absolute shocker once in a while. Personally I can't wait for tonight's home game, a chance for the team to quickly put right that awful Saturday. I'd hope the players too would have the same mentality. Anything else and a couple more equally dire performances would back up the rumours of a dressing room that is already split so soon into the season. Here's hoping tonight is a good 'un and Newell inspires the players, as do the fans. As always, up the bleedin' Mariners!

Letters Ed responds: Some times revolution needs the whip of reaction, as we Trots used to comfort ourselves. I haven't consulted Diary as to his intentions, but I'm willing to wager that the campaign has provoked far more positive, impassioned responses than yet another "Lets get behind the boys in their darkest hour (or at least the darkest hour since the darkest hour a few hours ago)" call to arms.
Dictionary
When and where did the term of endearment "Darl" break into the Grimmo language? I can't recall it existing 15 years ago. By the way it's used mainly by women.

Nunty- why didn't you just say how Grimsby appears to the rest of the UK?

Croft Baker
I was born at Croft Baker in 1951, and believe that makes me a true Meggie and proud of it. I was always under the impression that the word Megg was inherited from an old coin. I was told by my Dad that when the people from the likes of Barnsley, Rotherham and other Yorkshire towns visited Cleethorpes as many of them did on day outings, they came with money in their pockets. Its a known fact that they had no intentions of spending anything other than time sat on our beach. Obviously whilst relaxing taking in the sun that was free, money would flow from their pockets, meggs and all. So when the day trippers returned back to Yorkie land out came the Cleethorpe sifters, sifting through the sand for the lost bounty. And this is where the phrase of "Lets go Meggieing" came from. True or false, please put my mind at rest.

Letters Ed responds: One of these days, I might start up a dialogue within Cod Almighty Towers about using all these Grimmo dictionary letters in an updated edition. Until then, as a second generation Grimbarian, I'll let them pass without comment.
