Ocean Fish Bar, Ernie Beckett's or Steels?
16 August 2022
Is it really only the middle of August? We're all wrung out and sweaty and just about managing to raise enough energy to function here in Nottingham. A cool breeze off the Humber would be very welcome this evening, not least because I have to wear my Town scarf. Who other than a football fan would be sporting a scarf in the middle of a heatwave? I've thought about going full Bay City Roller (ask your mum) and tying it round my wrist but I'm not very tall and it would probably end up trailing along the ground. Sacrilege!
Anyway, chippy tea for a lot of exiles tonight. Because of dog commitments we can't drive over early enough for that so I have to console myself with the offerings at the ground. I mean when I say "console" it's probably a bit of a misnomer because, oh my, what offerings they are. I actually look out for the tweet telling us all what deliciousness is on offer where. We're in the Upper, so it doesn't change supplier but the offering is pretty appetising. At some point it would be good if, just for a game, Town fans could roam around the back of the home stands and try out the other stalls. I suppose it would be harder for the suppliers to plan and it would take a leap of faith to allow it but would be fun to try.
Enough about food, it's making me hungry. Let's talk about football.
Congratulations to Luke Waterfall on being named in the Team of the Week for Saturday. We've come to anticipate thumping headers from him, but I've watched it over and over, not marvelling at the strike but his movement across the area beforehand. It's a thing of beauty and so difficult to defend against.
In other great news, the Grimsby Town Sports and Education Trust being awarded £100,000 to capture memories and collect memorabilia to create an exhibition is just wonderful. We all have our stories and our memories but they are gradually being lost. 'Big' clubs probably feel they have more to say but our club is interwoven with the history of the Town and it's so important for it to be recorded for future generations. I'm all for it. Sadly, due to various commitments I didn't make it to the temporary exhibition so I'm really thrilled there is likely to be another opportunity.
In the pre-match interview with Hursty there's a discussion about our 'never say die' attitude. Any manager would want that approach in their team but gosh, how this team are already playing for him. And I did wonder at the weekend if we've seen a little glimpse of new Hursty. If you ask me he's blossomed. All credit to him for still going for it on Saturday when many teams, us included, would have settled for the point away from home.
Looking forward to this evening. Carlisle are unbeaten so it's going to be a tough one. Bring it on.
UTM!
