Not wall-to-wall black, just wall-to-wall black and white!

So boring isn't it. A weekend without football but with autumnal weather so you can't just sit outside and enjoy the day. Even a 'regular' postponement means you can follow other teams and see what's going on. Thank the lord, Lord Buckley that is, that tonight's game is going ahead.

With the announcement that the Mariners will be paying tribute to Her Maj I was wondering whether there was going to be some sort of performance or tableau. You can tell I'm going stir crazy after the last few days. Thankfully not; nothing more than a silence and a song. This could have been done on Saturday and it would have felt right but, hey-ho, we are where we are and all that.

Anyway, Gillingham. All keyed up and "looking to end their goal drought tonight". You would think with us having one of the lowest number of goals conceded so far this season it would be a phrase I'd love to hear. But I'm a football fan, and more precisely a Town fan, and even though we are in a good place at the moment, I still can't help but think "Please don't let them find their shooting boots tonight", or words to that effect. With that in mind I also had a quick check and as far I could see they have no former players of ours. Always a good sign.

Not having had the best of starts, their fans seem a bit fed up already. "No investment, no striker, no actual midfield, the squad is dire" from one fan just about sums it up. They are wondering if they can get their first away goal and points this season. Should be good for us but, again, I always worry about a team trying to kickstart their season.

In other news, those heavy-handed tough guys from the West Midlands Police have offered to meet with fans to discuss the policing on the day of the Walsall game. Credit to the Trust for pursuing it. I'm a bit cynical when it comes to this kind of thing but at least they have offered. If any of those who witnessed or were affected by their methods feel able to be involved, I urge you to do so. It's hard because it can be quite emotional for those affected but if we fans say nothing, they will be able to say "We tried but nobody came forward". All power to you if you do.
