Cod Almighty | Diary
I swear its this time.
30 September 2022
Mr Target Demographic Diary writes: So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen goodbye! I believe that’s how the song goes. That's right, for what seems like the third time now I'm saying I will no longer be writing consistently for Cod Almighty. This is for many reasons, mainly university obviously but also the fact that most nights I'm not in bed until 6am and freshers' flu has fully caught up with me this past week.
That is not to say I won't be writing sporadically. After all I didn't plan to write another diary for a while after my last entry but I guess I just couldn't help myself from the rush of seeing more than three likes and one passing comment on Twitter for my diary! (Bearing in mind two likes are almost always from family.)
I felt it only fitting that as my first diary was about the obscure legends I had growing up as a Town fan that I talk about some of the obscure legends in the current team who could be talked about in years to come by another impressionable young soul. For example, I could see a young fan admiring Jordan Cropper even if he is probably being a bang average defender for the fourth division. However that is swept away by the glamour of his insanely long throw-in. They could believe he could play in the top flight, just as I fully believed Hearn could all those years ago, when he was probably around his level.
Any player in the current squad is worthy of being a young fan's favourite as with the amount of character in this squad it makes it hard not to love them even when we have lost two on the bounce. Even with the recent dip in form new younger fans will still be nagging their parents to take them along to the football, because I know I would have been if I was watching this squad ten years ago. Instead, I got the wonders of Scott Neilson and Richard Brodie, what a time to be alive.
I feel I'm often not allowed to call back due to my age but to me those players stopped playing for Town ages ago so I think it counts! Brodie still plays football... guess im still not allowed. However, he is only at Gateshead so I might end up paying a visit to heckle him. Too far? Fair enough, I'll stick to buying them on Football Manager and ruining their careers virtually.
I've just had to look up who Town are playing this weekend - its Salford for those who like me no longer have time to memorise the next five fixtures in the calendar and whether they are home or away. Must just be symptoms of getting older. Not old enough to call back however.
See you all at Hartlepool.
Until then, UTM.
