Quite a team and quite a club
11 October 2022
Football clubs should stand for something. That's what Chairman Wow wrote yesterday and I for one don't disagree with him. Whatever your views, unless you own the club personally, then the clubs 'values' may not align perfectly with your own. That's not rocket science.
The owners want to "set standards that can benefit fans and the community". Personally, there's nothing to disagree with there, but a few always will. It got a bit contentious for some supporters when talking about communities deciding what matters and what the collective identity should be. What values do we want to see for our club? "Snowflake lefty FC" are apparently responsible for killing the atmosphere and values should be put aside for 90 minutes. Anyone who believes that should probably have given up going to football decades ago, or at least when our former owner left.
In modern, forward-thinking workplaces you wouldn't 'get away' with being openly racist, sexist, homophobic or derogatory to any one of the other protected characteristics. Football might be your downtime but if you feel you should be able to express those views at the match, then it's tough and you're not really welcome. I'd love you to stay and take on board the positivity of a club that wants to benefit fans and our community. Think it's all a bit too lefty-woke happy clapper? That's your prerogative but which bit do you disagree with? I'm proud that our club is developing this ethos. You would prefer a fan-owned club? I genuinely love the idea but when you experience Town fans turning on each other I struggle to see them working together to run the club. But again, that's my view.
There has been a slew of statistics about Town since the weekend. Most points by any promoted team in the top four leagues so far this season. Nineteen, with 13 of those coming away from home. We can be frustrated at the home form, certainly up to Saturday, but we're not doing too badly at all. Add to that the five clean sheets we've had so far. Nice. We're proving we can play at this level and if we find our shooting boots, play-offs are a distinct possibility.
Congratulations to Gavan Holohan who appeared in the Football League team of the week based on his goal early in the second half. Across all three of the leagues, that's quite an achievement. Love him as a player and his attitude. Long may he sport a Town shirt.
Meanwhile Gavan Holohan, Harry Clifton and Anthony Glennon all featured in the fourth division team of the week. Congratulations all round. We have quite a team.
UTM!
