The fun is over, back to the mundane
15 November 2022
Well that's that bit of excitement over with. The Square Ball (Leeds United) won Fan Media of the year at the Football Supporters Association annual awards. Congratulations to them. We were just very pleased to be nominated. And thanks to Tony for donning his tuxedo and trekking down to that there London to represent us; I hope it was a decent dinner. I'm assuming tuxedo but I honestly have no idea; I know Tony will have done us proud though.
I noticed 'On this GTFC day' tweeted earlier that it is three years today that Town parted company with Michael Jolley after 18 months as manger of the first team. Hang on there a minute. How can it possibly be only three years? It feels like a whole lifetime and another world. I quite liked the spell when Jolley was in charge. He seemed to have something about him and certainly tried to do something a bit different. I confidently predicted it would never last. He was far too modern for the dinosaur in charge at the time. Strength and conditioning coach improving your stamina? Who would have thought it? We all remember it ending in tears which, after some craziness, ushered in the current era. Wouldn't change it for the world.
I was looking at our fixtures. The horrible entity that is Stevenage FC (aka The Gropers) with their volatile manager Steve Evans. Wonder if he will last the full 90 minutes without a card? He must achieve that sometimes, but his record at Blundell Park isn't great. Saturday could be interesting. They are in great form but if it doesn't go their way from kick-off there could be fireworks.
Then we have a fixture black hole on the Town site. I suppose we're waiting for the Cambridge United v Curzon Ashton replay this evening before agreeing our second-round game will definitely be 3pm on the Saturday. Given it's the FA Cup, either team will be a challenge but wouldn't it be lovely to make it to the third round? That's the joy and the pain of watching Town. And the hope.
UTM!
