Cod Almighty | Postbag
Postbag: froth at the top, dregs at bottom, but the middle excellent.
26 July 2011
This Postbag has come over all Voltaire (Erudition's dead easy when you've got the internet) So Stand upright, speak thy thoughts, declare The truth thou hast, that all may share; Be bold, proclaim it everywhere: They only live who dare.
We are all formed of frailty and error
I'm not sure who is right and who is wrong, but you have got the Doncaster pre-season friendly fixture down as Thursday 28th July, whereas the match ticket and GTFC official website are saying the fixture is on Friday 29th.
I would normally trust Cod Almighty as being the more reliable, but in this instance I thought I'd better check...it wouldn't do for any poor, long-suffering Town fan to show up on the wrong day.
I thoroughly enjoy reading the diary and Tony Butcher's match reports. Keep up the good work!
Regards,
from Elizabeth Collins
Letters Ed responds: That sound you hear is the SNOS webmaster laughing. The official site was right, and we were wrong (but we've corrected the page now)
The superfluous, a very necessary thing
Hello
I downloaded your wonderfully useful google calendar of Town's fixtures this season. However it seems to have recently gained a couple of non-GTFC related entries regarding band practice and pop shows in Birmingham. It would be cool if your lovely calendar author could create another personal calendar on google for their own events so they don't show up in the GTFC fixtures calendar (and therefore in my own calendar!!)
Thanks
from Chris Jenkin
Letters Ed responds: The calendar too has been amended.
Prejudices are what fools use for reason
Hi lads,
Just wanted to say keep up the good work. Lots of very nasty words being slung about there on the whole Connellgate issue.
Look forward to reading your take on the festive double-header this coming season against the mighty Imps.

Oh Lord, make my enemies ridiculous
In light of recent correspondence from some of Grimsby's finest literary geniuses knocking CA, I'd like to offer my full support to all at CA towers. You are by far the only site dedicated to GTFC worth reading and have been for years.
Not being a snob in anyway, I like to think of Town fans falling into two brackets. Those who spout utter crap on the message boards and those who read Cod Almighty. I'm proud of falling into the latter bracket.
All of you at CA Towers should be proud too as the completely voluntary efforts you continue to put in are enjoyed by many a Town fan and we appreciate the service you provide.
Keep up the good work and roll on the new season. I for one can't wait for Mr Butcher's match reports to have me in stitches again.
from Ben Gresswell
I'll defend to the death your right to say it
I understand that you have received and published abusive emails written in my name.
I would like to take this opportunity to state that at no time have I emailed criticising the "The Cod Almighty" website and its content. I would like to also take this opportunity to state that this site like others that discuss all aspects of what goes on at Grimsby Town FC are needed and I totally support what they are trying to achieve.
I do not condone abusive and none constructive criticism against any website or against the Football Club itself.
Regards
from Rob Andrews
Letters Ed responds: Rob wrote after it came to light that one of the "literary geniuses" described by Ben had hidden their true identity behind Rob's name to abuse us. Both letters originally published in his name have now been amended.
Thanks to Rob, and to all our other correspondents. To join in, remember only that the instruction we find in [letters] is like fire. We fetch it from our neighbours, kindle it at home, communicate it to others, and it becomes the property of all.
