Blessed are the cheesemakers
7 March 2023
Hey up...it's Tuesday and it's time for Fill the Gap Diary...think of me a bit like some grated cheese you put on your beans and toast; that's the only thing you've got to eat all day as it's five days 'til pay day. Or as a late substitute…you know…like Evan Khouri last Wednesday. Oh, Wednesday...apologies...still seeing those images in my head...I digress…
Tonight sees your FA Cup Quarter Finalists return to Parc de Blundell to face Newport. If you haven't got your ticket yet…well...why the hell not? What's up with you?! Sort it peoples! This is a club on the up – be there or be Blue Square. Nah, those days are behind us, we're more heading for Red Star Belgrade or someone in Europe in the newly-named Park de Blundell, ready for those EU members, who might kindly let us back in, or something. European Football…wow. Grimsby Town are, like, three matches away from Europe. I'm digressing again aren't I??
You are too. Admit it. You're picturing Luke Waterfall sliding in to take the ball off Theo Walcott again, aren't you? It's OK, it's fine: the first step to recovery is knowing and recognising the path you're on. I'm an expert in such matters. Trust me, said the Doc. I'm a bit wary of him though – gave me a right funny look when I said I've got Marineritus...the weirdo.
Back to tonight and Newport, Omar and all. A reminder of the recent past, he went on to be his agent's best meal ticket whilst on a tour of England before heading to Newport. That haven Lord Podge ventured to with their famous cup runs. Bogle was no Amond though, was he? I mean…come on...that's like Torville without Dean; it wouldn't have worked without the other making it so. I know I shouldn't say things like this ahead of kick off. Now Sod's Law will kick in and they'll go away with the points after Omar bags a brace.
But hey, we're Grimsby bloody Town…FA Cup Quarter Finalists. See – cup runs. I just don't make this stuff up you know; we're going to get our fourth win at Parc de Blundell this season, aren't we?
So you, yes you, get yourself to PdeB and cheer on Hursty and the lads. The first chance at home since last Wednesday to show your appreciation of what they've achieved in the FA Cup - and to show that the magnificent support at Southampton (by god that was immense, the supporters did the club proud) can be produced at home. I've got some pre-match beans and toast (with cheese) to munch first.
Cheese. Mmm, I digress (again)...apologies. I went momentarily back to Grim Outlook days with the cheese connoisseurs…
Enjoy the game and make some noise for the boys.
