There’s many a good tune played on an old fiddle.

So, have you wound down from the season yet? I'm just about there. I still haven't totally switched off and so am watching any bit of live football that I can. Not being a subscriber to the Super Sunday Brigade I content myself with the play-off games that have been on BT.
My son and I were watching Brackley Town vs Kidderminster, every so often saying to each other "I still can't believe Scunny have sunk to this level". In many ways it's yet another apposite warning of just how wrong things can go with owners who don't have a clue. Not that fans of most lower league clubs need reminding.
You will have to have been in a bunker not to know that Notts County are back in the league. I don't agree with the fans on local news programmes who are of the "we're back where we belong because we're the oldest club" mentality. What I do think is they will be tough opposition but a great awayday for Town fans and always bring a decent number to Blundell Park, which makes for a great atmosphere.
One of my pet hates at this time of year is the comments appearing on social media suggesting players who Town should sign from other clubs' released lists. We've seen before that just because a team has released a player it doesn't mean Hurst or another manager won't get them slotted in and playing well for us. Don't get me wrong, I'm very interested in who we will bring in. I'll also have similar discussions with friends and family who share my interest. Tagging in those players and the club just looks odd. I don't for a minute think that Hurst and his team don't know who will or is likely to be released and have thoughts about whether they are worth pursuing. Tagging the club in brings to mind my slightly empty-headed labrador who likes to make sure that I know someone has rung our doorbell. Der, we know.
Anyway, I'm just pleased we've moved on from being totally reliant on journeymen getting another year out of their careers. There are also players who I wouldn't mind coming back, if Hurst thinks they will fit his plan. Let's wait and see.
UTM!
