I’m an analogue fan in a digital world

Trentside Diary writes: I spent a few minutes yesterday writing the Town games up to the first week of January into my diary. Yes, I still use a physical paper diary for all personal commitments, appointments and events. It somehow makes it seem more real and I remember things better if I write them in pen rather than electronically. It also differentiates work from social. The up side is I’m now totally focused on the coming season. Not long to go now.

I’ve been disappointed not to get to any of the pre-season games, it just hasn’t worked out this year although bizarrely I will be watching County v Forest at the weekend, just because I was invited by a friend. Whilst I don’t set too much store in friendlies as predictors of a season, it’s still good to see players in action. I’ll also be interested in the how evident the difference in quality will be.

Since all the changes in Twitter I have seen far fewer posts from Town fans I follow. I don’t know whether that’s because it’s close season or because I just see streams of rubbish and people I don’t follow. If anyone has been to the pre-season games it would be great if you would comment on the new players. Preferably positively!

What I have seen is quite a bit of is speculation that Harry Clifton is on his way elsewhere. I have absolutely no idea whether that’s true or not. I would be disappointed to see him go but at the same time, I can’t really blame him. It would be a chance for him to play at a higher level, push himself further and maybe increase his chances of playing for Wales. With only a year left on his contract it would be better to get cash for him than him run his contract down. True, a lot can happen in a year but he has probably already made his intentions for his future known. Barnsley were one of the clubs suggested but as they have made a bid for a Salford winger, Luke Bolton, I would have thought that would be less likely. I would be hugely disappointed if he went to a club in our league such as Bradford City. They might have more cash but surely he would be looking to player higher up the “Pyramid” (I hate that description)? Whatever happens “He’s one of our own” and I would always wish him all the best.
