Chairman Wow has done it again and is out there speaking sense. This time the subject is not football but one of the great NE Lincolnshire mysteries:
Always amazed me how few people are unaware that one for the great song writers of all time was from Cleethorpes. Great documentary thanks @LDBullen one for #gtfc fans to enjoy while there’s no https://t.co/qNwBOp6K86

Daubney Diary, like the rest of you, grew up with Grimsby and Cleethorpes as the lazy punchbag or punchline in TV and print for a nation who thought two weeks on the Costa del Sunburn represented culture. The net result for us natives is preparing for the reaction and getting ready to fight your corner as the words "that's an interesting way to pronounce 'car park', where are you from?" enter the conversation.
Years were spent riffing on fish trying to explain how the Largest Fishing Port in the World was indeed a smaller settlement of humans than places like Hull or London but that such titles were actually awarded based on quantity of trawlers and tonnes of piscine matter landed thereof. All at a time when our hometown should have needed no introduction beyond "no disrespect to the likes of your AC/DCs and your Whitney Houstons but it's the place where the best selling album of all time came from".
I, like the rest of the planet it seemed, had a copy of Thriller, so why the hell didn't anyone tell me about Rod Temperton? I'd have bought two. Particularly when you can now see the black and white-themed album cover is a clear nod to Town and the cuddling of a tiger indicative of our dominance over Hull City at the time. Not convinced? Look at the lyric '...and no one's gonna save you from the beast about to strike'? It's not mentioned in the documentary, probably due to pressures of space, but Rod is taunting opposition players here with a reference to Bobby Cumming here.
So as instructed by Jason, watch the You Tube documentary and marvel at the voice of a bloke that sounds like your uncle talking about writing some of the most famous music of the past 100 years. Then tell everyone you know. EVERYONE. Throw in any or all of the fine peeps from here while you're at it. Finish your rant by stealing from Roddy Doyle, "Say it once, say it loud, I'm Black and White and I'm proud".
Football? Oh yeah, congratulations Boston on actual promotion to the conference and not just for the social media LOLs beating Plucky Scunny it inspired. Now off to YouTube with the lot of you.
