Cod Almighty | Diary
Bulgarian Mariners
4 June 2024
Mr Target Demographic writes: A consistent feature of my dairies since joining Cod Almighty has been the weird and wonderful places and things I've gotten up to that somehow, often loosely, tie into Town.
Today's diary continues this trend as I write to you from Sunny Beach, Bulgaria! Why are you in Bulgaria you ask? Well I am currently on my lads' holiday, poolside with sunburnt shoulders and a cocktail. So forgive me for any grammatical errors that you may find!
I'm aware of the Italian, Mexican and Dutch Mariners but I'm yet to have any knowledge of a Bulgarian core of Town fans. That is why I sit here in my one-of-three-packed Town shirts as I try and convince the people of Bulgaria that Danny Rose has the finishing of Stoichkov with the footballing brain of Berbatov all rolled into one. If there is a sudden influx of Bulgarians into Grimsby asking to see the broadway shows of Freeman Street and fine dining of Steel's, along with the white sand beaches of cleethorpes, that might be my fault.
Moving to the real news of the week, the departure of Harry Clifton put a slight downer on the beginning of my holiday as I was incredibly sad to see a player I had almost grown up alongside leave. His absence from the squad will be noticed, not only as a homegrown talent but also the versatility he gave us. I imagine when Artell came into the club he asked everyone where do they feel most comfortable playing, to which I believe Harry would have simply replied "Yes".
The engine and pure passion as well the ability to play anywhere will be hard to replicate in whoever is brought in as his replacement. For a little man, they are big shoes to fill.
Unfortunately, I haven't played much of this year's Football Manager therefore cannot offer my insights on players out of contract this summer that could be useful, so I'll leave the guesswork to the professionals.
Apologies for a shorter diary this week, I can currently feel my face burning and the piña coladas won't drink themselves. Happy summer everyone!
