Fantasy EFL
24 July 2024
Mr Target Demographic writes: A week closer to the season starting and this week, although quiet on the transfer front, has seen exciting news in the world of the EFL. That is because this week the long-awaited Fantasy EFL was released! As an avid Premier League fantasy player, I have been waiting for ages for an EFL or league two version at least!
I would encourage as many people to participate as possible, but I feel some may not grasp the gravity of the situation. Ever since a couple of years ago when forfeits for the loser got introduced Fantasy Football is no longer something I'm allowed to take lightly. For example, this year's loser had the name of his first girlfriend tattooed on him in Bulgarian. Yep, he lost a fake league that only last nine months of a year and now lives with that permanently. Now if I was to set up a Grimsby Town fan league there would be no such antics obviously…unless of course we make the loser rewatch all the games under Ian Holloway. I think I'd rather the tattoo, you know.
The fact that my Premier League Fantasy League has become this serious has unfortunately led me to leave any trace of Grimsby out of my fantasy team for the first week of the season as the forfeits for next year's loser are already beginning to circulate and it's not pretty. Furthermore, combined with the fact I simply have no idea what Town will do come the Fleetwood game means I cannot afford to risk it. Hopefully though after watching us on Saturday against South Shields, I'll feel more confident to put Jason Svanþórsson in over Jodi Jones or Alfie May.
Saying all this, I don't know if I've much to fear as on the day Fantasy EFL launched our third-choice goalkeeper Sam Auton had been selected by 13% of managers. I literally have no idea why; I don't know who was spreading Sam Auton propaganda but honestly if people keep him in, I'm all for it. Checking this morning it has since dropped to 0.4% but he's still the fourth most selected goalkeeper in the league two bracket!
In other news! If you've been keeping up to date with the Cod Almighty Twitter page, you'll no doubt be aware of the collaboration we are doing with the Findus Podcast on the 21st Century XI. I will eventually be writing my piece on the flamboyant yet fantastic John McAtee. Definitely the most recent Town player to be featured in the XI, I am really looking forward to reliving his time here. For now, let's get behind the current boys.
