Drinking sangria in Blundell Park

6 September 2024

Life is only as good as Town's last game and so, right now, life is definitely good. For your A46 Diary last Saturday was as close to a Lou Reed day as it's possible to get without the liberal application of opiates. If it were possible to powder the feeling of Blundell Park six days ago then it'd be on my spoon ready to be cooked at a moment's notice. That noticeable moment will be whenever we're brought crashing back to Earth in some humiliating pants-down of a performance that surely lurks around at least one of the four corners we have to turn in September.

But, for now, are we still high? Absolutely! As a kite! Will we still be in the clouds after tomorrow's trip to Chesterfield? Hopefully. We may have to do without Donovan Wilson and we may or may not have the two new boys, Luker and Obikwu, available. DA is keeping his cards hidden for now, so, as he says, we will have to wait and see. Our two home wins have taken the pressure away from fixtures like the one tomorrow, as have the performances of the players available. McJannet (happy birthday!), Khouri and Green have been the standouts so far, and the return of Rose and the growing influence of our Icelandic chap make for levels of optimism that are quite dizzying, so we can take a break from worrying about availability. Another standout has to be DA's interviews: simple, honest, genuine, unrehearsed, open, hopeful, loyal, optimistic. Feel those syllables, op-ti-mis-tic.

We can give ourselves permission to feel the high. Go now, enjoy it, enjoy tomorrow, sing, dance, be merry. All is well.
