Mental as anything
11 November 2024
Hey, yeah you with the sad face, where's your sink holes when you need them eh, Womblers?
Well, who'd have thought it, eh? Well, who wouldn't have thought it! When the Mariners Mystery Tour rolls up we've got everything we need and satisfaction's guaranteed. We're the away day kings!
Mental innit? Yes, it is mental, isn't it, for it's all the mind, this game is all in the mind.
Some call it magic as we search for the grail, but Satnav Dave knows the road ahead, literally. We've been around the M25 before this season, he knows how to get to places. And we've got Kieran Green: Renaissance Man. You know, last year he'd have mushy peas with his fish and chips but he's had a lovely holiday, even eaten exotic foods in the Cheapside canteen. He's moved on - it's guacamole dip from now on. The Womblers certainly didn't expect the guacamole dip on THAT pass, did they. Aren't we glad he didn't move on this summer.
We're undergoing a Green revolution. Old, dirty industry is a thing of the past, it's all about smooth, frictionless transitions to a world of clean lines and aromatic air. Like Jones the Stick and Big Luke Waterfall, the Green Machine has turned from stagnant water into a finer wine through sheer force of will. It's all in the mind. And maybe, just maybe, we have the Wright stuff in goal. Maybe, just maybe, all that jumping Jordan needed was one tip-top game to wash away the fears and all those mutterings he hears.
You gotta hand it to Satnav Dave, like some kind of Druid dude, lifting the veil, pushing barriers and planting the seed. When Dave's on the road again his words are as good as gold again.
That's the rolling present, what about the rocking future? Ignore Tuesday, nothing's happening. Mow the lawn one last time, you know you'll regret it if you don't, grass grows when you aren't looking, like a watched Trevor Kettle. The future is now on Friday as the Youthers are clashing with those titular Titans from the dirty old town in the second round of their FA Cup, live and exclusive at Blundell Park. It's tempting, isn't it. You may even see a Town team win at Blundell Park again.
Now that is a mental thought.
