Is your journey really necessary?

Was it the original Exeter game from 1972 that was called off because of a fog which lifted straight after the decision had been made? If so, it is surely proof that not only is there a god, but they are a Town fan, as the rearranged game at the end of the season filled the memories of a lifetime.

Newbegin Diary is about 20 miles from Blundell Park as the crow flies (far longer - believe me - if your journey involves a train, a bus, and another train), looking out on an expanse of beautiful blue sky. To learn that tonight's FA Youth Cup fixture with Tottenham has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch feels as incongruous as the postponement from 1972. Let's hope that once again paradise is merely postponed and it won't be long before Town's young players are making memories to last them for the rest of their lives, or at least until they (and Harvey Cribb) restore the Mariners to their rightful place, among the pinnacles of British football...
