Cod Almighty | Diary
Let’s make some noise for the boys.
29 April 2025
Recent diaries have covered the permutations of showdown Saturday. It’s a one-game shoot out. We can all rue the slips and trips of our many dropped points leading to this moment but as has been said many times already, we would have given our right arm to have been in this position at this point last season.
Saturday is going to be a sellout and I can’t help but worry that we haven’t played well in front of the big crowds this season. Just an unlucky coincidence? I certainly hope so. Fingers crossed that this final game proves to be a more positive affair.
It’s got me thinking about big games we’ve had in the recent past. The frustration of 2021 followed by those three unbelievable play-off games in 2022. The FA Cup run of 2023. Slightly further back and there’s the play-off finals of 2015 and 2016 with those wild swings of emotion. That’s only the last ten years. Whatever happens on Saturday I’ll do my bit and get behind the lads.
Never boring following Town, is it?
The thing is, much as I love those moments, I just hope we play well, have a decent game. If we do then we can hold our heads up high even if it doesn’t go how we would wish. I’m just steeling myself for any result because it’s the hope that gets you.
If you are a season ticket holder who can’t make the game please do release your seat or pass it on to a mate. There are already quite a few people trying to get tickets and it would be great to have no gaps in the crowd.
Last night was the player of the year awards evening. I’ll not rehash the moans about the change of format, but I thought it looked like a great event. The players scrubbed up well and they looked to be enjoying the evening. Evan Khouri was our young player of the season. He’s been a revelation this year, and it’s fully deserved. Just shows what working hard with a manager that brings out the best in you can do. Player of the season was awarded to George McEachran. Another award you really can’t argue against but it was nice to have a few contenders. Goal of the Season really wasn’t in any doubt, was it? Kieran Green’s worldy against Harrogate Town. There wasn’t going to be any debate about that one was there?
Enjoy the game on Saturday. UTM!
