Support the wheelchair viewing area fund

12 May 2026

Today thousands of Town fans are coming to terms with not being able to attend a game they would dearly love to be part of. Newbegin Diary suggests turning that feeling into positive action.

The Mariners Trust is leading a project to provide a wheelchair viewing area at the open corner between the Osmond and the Ramsden stands. It has launched a crowdfunder with a target of £36,000 and it still has some way to go. It's the kind of target Town fans have smashed time and again in the past, so lets do it again.

It is forgotten in the ugly language of modern politics that this is not about some more or less deserving "them": this is about us. Read the comment of Andy Lovesey about the supporter who has been coming to Blundell Park for 60 years but fears this season will be his last, as his legs can't manage the steps any longer. One day that will be me, or you.

If we know one thing about our current board, it is that they are not going to risk bankrupting the club on a gamble which our gates can't sustain. In the long-run, we may win the FA Cup as the only club still solvent. In the short-term, we're at a disadvantage against the Wrexhams and the Salfords of the game. Making sure that every fan who wants to be at Blundell Park can be there is a small measure towards levelling the playing field. It makes matchday better for all of us.

So if you have money burning a hole in your pocket that you would have spent on a Salford ticket, please spend it now.

Up the Mariners.
