Mardy Diary writes: Ah. Two wins in a row. OK, we weren't great - but playing rubbish away from home and still winning is the hallmark of a great-ish team that might scrape into the last play-off place if it's a bit lucky. Still, all that chuntering to appoint the reluctant Dave Moore to the post until the end of the season seems to have quietened a bit as Town proved yet again that it doesn't really matter who the manager is, because they'll still fail to perform consistently. If Dave Moore barking orders at you doesn't scare motivate you in to playing half-decent, then nothing will. Credit to the substitutes who came on and changed the game, though. Especially the ones for Kettering.
Not one to blow my own trumpet... Sorry, I'll start that again. Always one to blow my own trumpet, of course, I have been bleating on for about the past seven seasons about the fact that the season never really starts 'til March. Obviously you need to be in with a fighting chance of promotion and not rock bottom several points adrift at the end of February. But if you're floating around in the middle somewhere then anything can happen. Look at the past - Buckley's teams always had a bit of a March burst which propelled them to promotion and Slade's team completely fell apart in that month, dropping out of the automatic spots.
Yes, the research is a bit flimsy but what you have to realise is that I am, in fact, incredibly stubborn and will not be shifted from this view. So, with a good run in March Town will fly in to that last play-off place and then maybe on to promotion. Either that or we'll get dicked on at home by Rushden tomorrow and I'll shut up about my theory until next season.
It's all a bit quiet other than that, with the various board members choosing to shut the fuck up just for a day or two and there's still no news on the new manager. So, we'll delve in to the CA inbox.
First up is a message from Mick 'Ivory Towers' Needham. Mick last wrote to us in August to tell us that we were all a bunch of lazy, GET-copying, feckless wasters not worth the money we weren't being paid. He says: "I would like to say that the Diary has been much better of late, back to the good old days of CA." Uh-oh, my half-arsed effort today isn't going to go down well, then. "You must admit that it was a bit pointless 'linking' to the articles in the Telegraph that I'd already read a few hours earlier. Keep up the good work." Thanks Mick, that's a bit nicer. The links, though, are there as references - I'm not really sure what the misunderstanding is here. And I'm too tired to explain the internet. Again.
Paul Willerton writes to say: "On 18 March we will set off to complete our 92 club challenge, raising funds for the SVP Children's Camp which benefits children from Lincolnshire Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire." Good on yer, Paul. "Wondered if you could add a couple of lines to the diary with a link to our Just Giving page?" So if anyone would like to sponsor Paul, head on over to his Just Giving page and donate away.
It's alright Mick - it's not a link to the Telegraph...
