How do you follow a match when you're not there? Your original/regular Diary has never quite got into radio commentary. Not being able to see anything makes me assume the worst at all times. So if I've got the game on Radio Humberside, then every time Town lose the ball I assume the other team are about to score. In recent seasons, mind you, this is not entirely dissimilar to actually watching the match in person.

But as the years have rolled by, I've worked through several alternative means of 'watching' a game when I'm not there. There was Ceefax, God rest its soul. There were online chatrooms, which we seem to miss a little less than Ceefax. More recently there's been online commentary - both text-based and through Mariners World. But perhaps my favourite way right now is on Twitter. It's fast, it's free, and by God it's succinct. Some would say you don't even need 140 characters to summarise the Mariners' performances sometimes. I couldn't possibly comment. Certainly not as far as last night is concerned, anyway, because I wasn't there.

But in particular, two Tweets about Town's game at Kidderminster seemed to sum up why the team's good possession football across the whole of the current season so far mostly hasn't resulted in goals.

Tweets of the season
Ultimately, of course, a point away from home against a well-managed side like Kidderminster is not to be sniffed at, even if it takes an own goal in injury time to achieve it. So well done to Shorty and Shouty's men for that, especially given the patched-up nature of the side. By the time Alfreton visit Blundell Park on Saturday, we ought to see the potential return of messrs Wood, Hearn and Silk, even if there are two of them who we can't fit on the pitch at the same time.
