Diary - Tuesday 11 September 2012
11 September 2012
Paul Hurst feels vindicated at his and Rob Scott's decision to have five strikers on the books following Saturday's injury to Andy Cook, who joins Greg Pearson and Liam Hearn in undergoing treatment. The short manager suggests a redoubled effort to add to the squad.
Those efforts continue tonight at 7:00 when trialist Dean Morgan, a 28-year-old striker or winger, will feature in the reserves' first match of the season at Gateshead. Morgan has played for 11 different clubs but was released by Chesterfield at the end of last season. His last appearances were on loan for Oxford, where he appears to have had mixed reviews.
Not feeling at all vindicated is your Middle-Aged Diary, who, last Tuesday, was a bit of a pillock himself. I say this not because Anthony Elding scored twice that night and still less because I imagine he gives the slightest concern to what is written about him on Cod Almighty. Nor do I suppose you have given that entry more than a passing thought since you read it. The feedback we have received on it has, as far as I know, been non-existent. It's just me who is worried. First, I don't know Elding, so while it may be true to say he was behaving like a pillock, I shouldn't make judgements on his overall character. Second, it may not even be true he was behaving like a pillock. The treatment of Michael Coulson and Charles I'Anson at the end of last season should have been warning enough that Scott and Hurst are apt to portray players with whom they are in dispute in the worst possible light. For my own sake, if no-one else's, I'm sorry.
Confession is good for the soul they say - mine, if not yours. Good luck.
