Diary - Tuesday 16 October 2012

16 October 2012

It is tempting to say that a period of silence, both on the part of and on the subject of, Anthony Elding would be welcome. However, you have not loaded this page for silence, so your Middle-Aged Diary will have his cake and eat it. An accusation that can now be levelled also at Rob Hurst who, having stoked antipathy to the possibly want-away possibly just-wants-to-play striker following his transfer request, is now trying to lay all responsibility for that antipathy at the door of the supporters. One is tempted to reach for the cliché that Elding should do his talking on the pitch, except that our gesticulator-in-chief might take the metaphor literally.

Elsewhere in the Telegraph there is a rather nice interview with Shaun Pearson about his involvement with the 'Trawling the Town' under-nines team. Even that only reinforces the sense that, what with the Mariners fourth in the fifth division, no news is good news.

It does mean that we can get this diary entry up in good time so that, if you are at a loose end this afternoon and weren't already aware of it, you can get along to Blundell Park for the reserves' first home fixture of the season. Kick off is at 2:00pm, the opponents are Burton Albion and admission, via the Main Stand only, is free. And no, I'm not cutting and pasting from the NSNOS: I'm paraphrasing.
