Miss Guest Diary writes: We didn't make it to Newport after all on Saturday, despite Town coming up with the goods against Gateshead on Tuesday. I was up for it but my other half, having had a hard week at work, didn't relish the prospect of an eight-hour round trip to see what he fully expected to be a defeat. I once had occasion to find a single word to describe him and I chose 'implacable', so I didn't waste any effort trying to persuade him. And, though Town extending their unbeaten run and taking a point from a team above them away from home is a good result, I feel he made the right choice for us.

I'm not saying that a 0-0 draw is never worth seeing - I have cited many times the 0-0 draw at Ipswich in April '92 as the game that turned me from a casual spectator into a Town fan. But the match reports and the extended highlights available on the Newport County website indicate very few moments of tension or chances for either side.

So I'll move on to other topics. I understand the Mariners Trust held a programme fair at Blundell Park yesterday which raised £500. As well as being implacable, my other half is a hoarder. If the trust has plans to hold another fair, there is a huge box of Town programmes from the last 25 years gathering dust in the garage which it is really welcome to have.

The proposed new stadium has reared its head again with a report in the Telegraph about the scuppering of plans to turn the site into a wood to celebrate the queen's diamond jubilee. Though when you read the story it turns out it was only one of five possible sites and it might still happen anyway if the stadium doesn't go ahead. A bit of a non-story really. So why am I mentioning it? Because it has a footnote about protests by the local allotment holders, one of whom is called... Lewis Haddock. Shame his first name isn't Harry, but you have to take what you can find when on diary duty.

Which brings me to yesterday's email from the club, entitled 'Official Weekly Newsletter'. Oh-ho, that's good, I thought, some content for Monday's diary which I won't have to seek out myself. Here goes: Aswad Thomas has another England C call-up; Louis Soares has gone on loan to Ebbsfleet for a month; and you can buy tickets for the Newport game on the gate. What do you mean that's last week's news?
