Miss Guest Diary writes: "Rubbish" - that was the word used by the shorter of Town's managers to describe Saturday's performance against Buxton, and I wholeheartedly agree with him. He also said he felt sorry for the fans. I can assure him we felt sorry enough for ourselves. A sparsely occupied football stadium on a cold, wet day with nothing worth watching on the pitch is not the place to be. The only thing which got me through the second half was the prospect of the Moroccan lamb tagine which I had been invited to share with friends after the game. Unlike Town's performance, it didn't disappoint.

Should Town manage to scrape through Wednesday's replay at Buxton and into the next round of the trophy, I feel that the 1,300 Town fans at Saturday's game should be compensated - preferably by the players - by receiving a free ticket for the next game. Perhaps someone could suggest this to the club at the fans' forum taking place in McMenemy's tomorrow. I'm going to hang on to my ticket stub for a while, just in case.

Still, as David Essex once sang, every cloud's got a silver lining, and dire performances by Town tend to bring out the best in Cod Almighty's principal match reporter. So have a read of his report from Saturday, which is infinitely more rewarding and entertaining than anything which happened on the pitch.

I'm reserving judgement on Town's new loan striker, Michael Rankine, until I've seen him in the context of a decent game. By which you can probably tell that he didn't impress. I am reminded of all the times I gave Louis Soares the benefit of the doubt, and look how well he's turned out.

I feel I need to lighten the mood a little. How about this - the Town calendar for 2013 has been launched! This hasn't been particularly good news in recent years, with Town's revolving door approach to staffing meaning that many of the players have left the club before the month in which they feature comes round. But this time the club have had the sense to make the calendar double-sided, with Town legends on the reverse. Will Wayne feature, I wonder.

And here's some really good news: England have won the second test match in India by ten wickets. Unfortunately it isn't football- or Town-related, but on a dank and dreary Monday following a dank and dreary Town performance you have to take comfort where you can.

Normally, before signing off I would wait until the draw for the next round of the FA Trophy had taken place so I could bring you news of Town's opponents. But as I'm not convinced Town will even be in the next round, you'll have to do your own research. I'm off to Lincoln to buy a new wok.
