Mardy Diary writes: So it seems Town have a problem winning against teams they've not played recently. Hurst says the new teams, those that were promoted last season anyway, are an "unknown quantity" for Town. Not that we haven't scouted them, he says, so we do know something about them. Just not enough. Apparently.

Results certainly back this up given the poor performances and results against all the new lot - including Macclesfield who came down last season. Although there seemed no such problem with Hereford.

So is it a case of Town underestimating these teams? It seems that everyone - managers, players, fans, non-chairmen - claims that we're not underestimating these teams and that they're in this league on merit. Every time we come up against a team like Hyde we have one or the other of the managers talking about not being complacent and this is followed by a Telewag interview with a player telling us that nope, nuh-huh, we're definitely not taking these teams for granted. And then we'll fail to show up for 70 minutes - only really having a go when it's too late to do anything.

Perhaps then some complacency does exist at a sub-conscious level that causes some players to play below themselves against these teams. Or maybe it's just coincidence. It's Friday afternoon - I'm struggling to care right now.

So tomorrow another chance to test the theory against Woking at home. I went to Hyde but can't make this weekend - let's hope the players bother to turn up this time. Have a nice weekend.
