Diary - Thursday 8 November 2012

I don't know which annoys me more about Shouty's tiresome little post-Hyde rant. It's questionable to single out a player for criticism, as the louder of Town's two managers has done with Bradley Wood. But it's grammatically redundant to say "reverted back", as the concept of 'back' is already implicit in the word 'reverted'. Now you won't get punditry like that out of Robbie Savage.
Good afternoon, gentle reader, and welcome to Thursday with your original/regular/safe pair of hands Diary. Those of us who made it along to [checks the internet] Ewen Fields on Tuesday evening wondered briefly whether one of those rare great GTFC comebacks might be on the cards, before Hyde scored a third and Town just gave up and hit shit long balls for the last 20 minutes. Recent diaries have discussed these comebacks in some detail, and Steve Winn has emailed to add to the debate.
"I remember the Barnsley comeback at Easter 1982 very well," writes Steve, "as we were standing in the Lower Findus with a group of noisy Barnsley supporters who went very quiet after the third goal! However, I would like to nominate two other comebacks. September 1950 at home to Manchester City, when Town came back from 4-2 down to 4-4 with 10 men and two late goals. Can one be better than 30 April 1932 away at West Brom in the top flight? Town, fighting for survival, 5-3 down, come back to win 6-5! Two hat-tricks from Holmes and Dyson. Still relegated though." Great stuff, Steve, and many thanks for sharing. Any further comeback reminiscences, people? Let's have 'em.
Does anyone really bother with player interviews any more? The Grimsby Telewag has moved over to video for the newest of its GTFC chinwags. Craig Disley is the subject this time. I'm not going to play it, partly because because my boss is sitting next to me but mostly because I know what Craig will say. The result against Hyde was disappointing, especially given that great unbeaten away run, and the players will have to improve against Woking this Saturday. Or in other words, to revisit a meme that's kept Telewag journos and Town underachievers in beer since around 2003, We've Not Been The Best Lately But We'll Get Better Soon, Honest.
But yay, for a hero is set to return who predates the Decade of Despair! It's Kevin Donovan and he's coming to play in the Major Shareholder's Challenge thing, which raises Money For The Youth And That. Do you reckon the £200 that fans can pay for a place in the team would be worth it for the chance to sledge Deadly Flopjohn while defending a set piece?
Lastly today, Microsoft Word seems to think I'm wrong to write "any more", and it should actually be "anymore". Anymore of that, Mr Gates, and I'll be reverting back to pen and ink.
